Paul’s Calls: Ready for more Moss?

Posted by pperillo on February 13, 2012 – 4:13 pm

It seems like every few months or so Randy Moss’ name surfaces as a potential cure to whatever ails the Patriots. Monday was yet another one of those occasions.

Moss made some minor waves on Monday when he announced his wishes to end his “retirement” and return to the NFL.

“I wanna play football,” Moss said on UStream. “Your boy is going to come back here and play some football, so I’m really excited. I had some things I had to adjust in my life.”

Moss turned 35 on Monday and was out of football entirely in 2011. What we last saw from the future Hall of Famer wasn’t good. He spent 2010 with three teams – the Patriots, Minnesota and Tennessee – and failed to distinguish himself with any. His time in New England was largely productive with three 1,000-yard seasons and basically a touchdown for every game played.

But it did not end well. His outspoken nature, not to mention his well-publicized locker room battle with departing offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien, led to his trade to the Vikings. When things didn’t go much better there, he was waived and claimed by the Titans.

However, the changes in venue did little to spark the old Moss magic. He finished 2010 with just 28 catches for 393 yards – both numbers representing career lows.

Now he wants to return, and New England is sure to be his preferred destination. With O’Brien gone and Josh McDaniels taking his place, it would make sense for one to wonder if it would be a potential fit. Moss set a single-season record with 23 touchdown catches under McDaniels’ watch in 2007 and the pair enjoyed working together.

Personally, I’ve had enough of the Moss dance. The player I remember most recently was one who struggled to get open and had a hard time dealing with his diminishing skills. No longer the centerpiece of the offense, Moss lashed out at O’Brien and made life tough for his quarterback, Tom Brady. There’s no reason to think his skills suddenly reemerged after a season away from the game, and envisioning him accepting a lesser role is tough at this time.

I understand where the Moss-mania is coming from, especially considering the lackluster offensive effort in the Super Bowl. But I’ll take a pass.

Would you be interesting in taking Moss back? Let us know with a comment here.

Paul, agree with your take.More trouble than his worth. But it would be great to see the 2007 Moss accept a lesser role with our current group, wishful thinking i guess.P.S Love the work you guys do on PFW. Listen every Tues & Thurs . Any chance of a Wed show during the off season.

I am definitely ready for more Moss, I feel that he still poses a threat as a great red zone target. Even if he is not as fast as he use to be, he is still an incredible reciever with great size and given the TE’s along with Welker and Branch, it would mean that teams could not double team him as much (like they constantly did in his last few games with the Patriots). If he is willing to sign a reasonable contract and accept his part as a role player for the team, then what harm would it do to at least see what he has left allowing him to prove himself through the end of training camp. He averaged more receptions in his last three games with the Pats than Chad Johnson did all of last year. Randy should be a little more modest now knowing this is his last shot to play in the NFL and we have all seen how he plays when he feels that he has something to prove. My guess is that he has a bunch to prove and just like when people said he was done after the Raiders, I believe that he is prepared to quiet the doubters yet again.

It comes down to what randy moss the pats would get. If he is in shape and still has good speed and a good attitude then they should sign him. But if he can not help the offense then no need for the headache. We need to find out what randy moss is coming out of retirement. The freak or the slouch.

If we can’t bring back Welker for whatever reason, and can’t land Lloyd, Wayne, Bowe, Colston, or any combination of the above, then I would bring back Moss. Otherwise, I’d take a younger option. Our Tight Ends are already a nightmare

No more Moss. No more Ocho. I will not scape goat either for any loss, and by all accounts Ocho is a good guy, but it’s time to stop building last decade’s all-pro team. These guys are available because they’re done. The offense can’t help this team to play 60 minutes on old legs and yesterday’s dreams.

I’ll also take a pass Paul. We need to get younger and faster at the WR spot. We don’t need another aging veteran to take up space on the roster, ala Ochocinco this year.

I don’t know if any bridges were burned when Randy left, but I’d still bring him in. He knows the system.
It’ll be very interesting to see what Coach does in Free Agency and the Draft in relation to the Wide Receiver position. Safety is another big need.

I say it’s well overdue. As I stated last year, the patriots had an opportunity to make up for the missed opportunity in 2007. Offensively we would have been even better with him on board. Who new they would be playing the Giants again, wow. I kept posting bring Randy Moss back. Manifest what was meant to be, make amends for what was missed in 2007. I kept posting it, spamming the bored, but everyone was against it. Its almost as if it was an intangible force working to blind the truth. Now the Patriots have yet another chance, a chance to do something special, something unique, just maybe something never before realized or comprehended. We still have Brady, and a excellent receiving team. If the Patriots make these additions, they could possibly go down as the greatest offensive football team of all time, and win the championship. In all truth, the Pats should be working on three-peeting.

    1. Hire a fresh, innovative, credible, talented, and respectable defensive coordinator. Multiple great minds are usually a deadly combo for the opposition.

    2. Hire some defensive superstars. You can’t coach talent. Some players make things easier for others, because of talent. We need a proven player who can cause chaos for the opposing team. Secondary and defensive pass rushing are the key positions.

    3. Hire Randy Moss, and hire Terrel Owens……..

Yea, I know how people are around here. Owens is this-that-cancer….blah blah blah The truth of the matter is he is a hall of fame catcher who can still play too. Imagine what he could do on a team like New England. Trust me when I say this, other teams wouldn’t want to see this happen because they know it would be a nightmare to oppose. Owens is like a mini tight end anyway, he could be moved around everywhere.

We all know what Randy does as a deep threat, the question remains though, will the Patriots let him do it again and make things correct, and stop cheating themselves, the fans, and the legacy of NFL greatness, hell sports for that matter. Stop killing the seeds of greatness, and let be what was meant to be, wants to be, and needs to be. The Patriots deserve the best players, they deserve to win in a glorious way. There organization is the best from the top down.

If need be hire a professional shrink to help out the players like Moss and Owens. Help them to continue helping you, by building unique support systems. Listen to the players, here them out. Whats hurting them inside is lack of acceptance. The Patriots are a proven organization who can validate them, reguardless or not if Owens or Moss are willing to admit it, its the truth. They need New England, and vice versa. Players like Moss and Owens are not perfect by any means, but they are future hall of famers. They have the ability to alter the game, even at this stage of there lives. Become the greatest offense ever and add Moss and Owens too the mix.

i will love to have moss back with the patriots so this fall i hop to see moss back with the pariots

  31. By PatsFan97624 on Feb 13, 2012 | Reply

The team needs a deep threat, there is no doubt of that. When considering Randy Moss as a potential fit, on the one hand I can’t help thinking, why not let the guy try out and if he makes the team see what kind of contribution he can make? I mean, after the Chad Ochohnson debacle it’s hard to imagine it being worse. At least there is a proven chemistry there… or was at least …that might still be tapped. There is another hand, though, and it’s disproportionately big. Is Moss still any kind of deep threat? And if the ability is still there, is the heart? If you’re going to consider just veteran talent for now there are quite a few good receivers coming available in FA, several who might be better fits for the Pats. True, Moss could likely be a bargain vs the cost of those FA’s worth pursuing. There’s just so much of a question mark surrounding Moss… but BB’s taken question marks, this one in particular, and made them work before. I say it would be worth as much a shot as Ochohnson was.

  32. By Cool Kidd on Feb 14, 2012 | Reply

Moss will be a great fit for the patriots offense especially down the stretch which will really help Wes Welker, Gronk, & Hernandez even more harder to contain and throw the defense off their games…

  33. By jose espinal on Feb 14, 2012 | Reply

believe it or not I’m open to the idea of bringing Moss back, if any team takes a change on him Moss knows it’s going to be in a completely different roll. So why not consider it at least; lets not forget that he was great complement to the Pats offence few years ago is not like he is going ask for much and I guarantee you he will do 100 times than what Ochocinco did.

  34. By Jorgen on Feb 14, 2012 | Reply

Why not? We got the middle of the field covered. All Randy has to do is sprint down the field and make leaping catches.

  36. By Kran1959 on Feb 14, 2012 | Reply

Brady can’t get the ball down field on a consistant basis ( remember the 2 int’s one in the Bal, & SB ) The arm is starting to go but you still need the deep threat to keep the secondary honest.

  37. By ed meyers on Feb 14, 2012 | Reply

We need a deep threat to keep defenses honest–Randy provides that—and with his favorite coach back–the time is now–not only that it will help Tom Brady get his confidence back—only large stumbling block is Mr Bill———You guess is as good as mine—what will happen!!!

  38. By Desmond on Feb 14, 2012 | Reply

if you be honest…. him and brady has a natural chemistry …..our offence would be ridiculously good because of all the weapons we have and he would force a man to man every play…..think about it ..welker, hernandez, branch, gronk, and moss…… every one of our receivers would destroy anyone with a 1on1 coverage

  39. By Desmond on Feb 14, 2012 | Reply

and moss is not injured …. he is motivated and a motivated randy moss is a very dangerous randy moss… look what he did his first year with us…. records broken all around and our depth with receivers wasn’t no way near as deep as it is now….. we have one of the best QB who can throw the skin off a football! can you just imagine what he could do with moss instead of ochostinko! it was like he wasn’t there at all… wasted money and time, Brady to moss looked so natural and it is obvious it worked cause they broke records the first year …it would give brady more options

  40. By Josh on Feb 14, 2012 | Reply

Yes, bring him back. I have a Moss jersey that I would like to be relevant again so I can wear it again :)

  41. By Alex on Feb 14, 2012 | Reply

His name and reputation alone will free up our already lethal receivers. They have a hard time trying to figure out how to cover Welker, Hernandez, and Gronk. Imagine if they had to cover Moss too. This is a no-brainer. Last time McDaniels,Brady, and Moss were together? 23 Receiving TDs? Super Bowl? Ring a Bell? This is a Low Risk/High Reward type situation. If he doesn’t work out then it doesn’t work out, doesn’t hurt us any. If it does, hopefully we’ll be celebrating the Super Bowl next February.

  42. By julian on Feb 14, 2012 | Reply

he wants a ring. thats all it comes down to so bring him back

  43. By Ron on Feb 14, 2012 | Reply

Moss made it clear last year that he wanted to play for the Patriots and he knows how the Patriots operate, so why would he want to come back if he was not willing to play by team rules. Also Moss appeared to have some personal/family issues which could easily effect any person and the performance at work. All I am saying is that a more focused with something to prove type of Moss at the very least a major red zone target with his hands and physical size. Randy wants to play football and he is as good as any reciever on the market. Randy is not a beat up 35 year old, he is healthy and hungry to play again. If the Pats were willing to at least bring him into training camp I know they will see that his skills are not as deminished as the media would lead us to believe.

  44. By John on Feb 14, 2012 | Reply

I like the idea of having Moss back. If we can get him for the right price and he keeps his cool he would be a great pick up. I also think that they should let Chad go because i don’t think he did anything. I would like to see Welker, Moss, Branch, maybe even another wideout like Wayne added to the mix to go with the 2 TE’s now you wanna talk about a great passing attack. If the money was right and everyone could get along that would be a great Offense. I also think that Ridley needs to get more playing time this year.

Heck we let branch go because of a dispute and we brought branch back and he’s still with the pats now. More moss please.

Sure, get Moss. Keep Ocho. And while we’re at it, let’s pick up Terrell Owens. A new Big Three!

    Not!!!

Why should anyone think Moss will be able to get with the program at this point? He’s older, been away from football for a year, and couldn’t handle his role the year before. At this stage, how could he be a major part of the offense? How could he possibly be a good candidate for a reduced role?

Forget about all of these guys. Let’s find a young, fast burner who can stretch the field. A number of other teams seem to have done this quite successfully (Saints, Cowboys, Giants, Steelers, etc.); why can’t we?

  58. By Joseph on Feb 15, 2012 | Reply

Yes, sign Randy Moss, he knows he cant act up or he’ll get traded. So hes going to perform. Name one defense that can cover Moss, Welker, Gronk, Hernandez, Branch and Johnson. Teams have to double cover Moss with a corner and a safety. They double cover Gronk or Welker too. That leaves single coverage on Hernandez, Branch, Johnson and welker or Gronk and only a three man rush. Leaving Tom Brady and his 4 offensive lineman to have all day to find an open reciever. Run the offense with 4 OL, 4 WR, 2 TE and Brady. If the defense blitzes somebodys wide open.

We have two great tightends, couple great short game recievers. No deep threat. As much as I liked Moss and his 23 td’s, he quit on us. No go for me. What about Vincent Jackson? He is a free agent. I doubt the bolts would let him slip, but, what if we could get him? There are also a few good, big talented deep threat recievers coming out in this draft.

  64. By RwE on Feb 15, 2012 | Reply

Everyone on here seems to agree that the Patriots need a viable outside/ deep threat. Signing Vincent Jackson or Marques Colston will be pricey and could effect the Pat’s ability to keep Welker (who deserves a nice little payday himself). Moss should be a financial bargain, he knows the system, he wants to be a Patriot, and it appears that he is in the position to have to prove himself once again. This is the best scenario for the right price. By signing Moss an area of need is met by someone who doesn’t have to sit a year and can make an immediate impact. Moss still has game and it will help in getting Welker the best possible contract. The extra money that the team would have spent on Vincent Jackson can go to improving the defense and maybe trading for someone like Jared Allen. Moss is the best option at reciever.

  65. By Andrew on Feb 15, 2012 | Reply

I believe the best two receivers that can come into the Patriots organization are Brandon Lloyd and Reggie Wayne. Reggie Wayne is a monster. and Brandon Llyod has experience with Josh McDaniels’ offense and he had success under it.

I like the idea of getting a free agent speedy WR who can spread out the field-can you all imagine that. The Pats finally are able to protect Brady which is why I believe they got to the SB. I don’t think Moss is the answer as whoever it will be needs to be unselfish as he will not be the primary reciever.
I’m not hip on rookies, it takes too long to bring them along and I believe the next three years our the window of opportunity-Brady not getting younger. How bout Vincent Jacson–anyone have opinion?

His time here has passed.Time for new blood.Gerell Robinson from the Zona Sun Devils would be a great new vertical threat/target for Brady to chuck it to.

If Moss can eat some humble pie and take lesser role in the offense. 5th all time in td’s, he doesn’t drop passes thrown to him in clutch situations. With Moss back it’ll open up the field for Welker and T.E’s. So unless you want another failed Ochostinko experiment, Greatest Receiver of All Time sat at home this season when he could have helped in the Superbowl.

  76. By imthrewwiththepats on Feb 16, 2012 | Reply

moss is done! anyone remember the first time the giants beat the patriots in the superbowl? moss did nothing but drop passes then. maybe if he caught one in the end zone at the end of the game the pats would have won and he would have stayed with the team.

What if we do get Moss or not if we dont we get stuck 4 the draft we could get Micheal Floyd “Stickey Fingers” dont drop anything hes 6’3 and he can catch a ball triple coverd I’ve seen it b4 Moss hes awesome but old lets get Floyd if we can hes young fast and tall it would really help us if we do 4 the 2012 draft pick if we dont get him round 1,2 he’s gone he would help Brady out a lot and maybe we can win another Superbowl this year

You may not be playing Randy but your name alone generates debate…I’d say your still good but not as a present day NFL receiver…

  79. By gifted for the obvious on Feb 16, 2012 | Reply

Moss did not have to learn a system..His plays were all,run like hell towards the end zone and Brady will try to drop the ball on you..Worked a lot of times but not when it counted most.

  80. By Ron on Feb 16, 2012 | Reply

    Hey Mr. imthrewwiththepats,
Randy caught a touch down in that game, which was a low scoring game (Pats had 14 points), that means he was responsible for fifty percent of the total scoring and that is a bit high for just one player. where was the rest of the offense in Super Bowl 42. When the Giants double covered Moss in the second half of that game, other people should have stepped up. The Patriots now have more weapons which could make Moss just as effective as he was that season. He knows the system and won’t cost the team nearly 10 million a year like Vincent Jackson or Marques Colston would. The economics of building a Super Bowl caliber team is complicated and the number one rule is that you don’t put all of your eggs in one basket. Randy is still lethal and at the right price would contribute the same basic skill set that Vincent Jackson would without breaking the proverbial bank.

  81. By Ron on Feb 16, 2012 | Reply

Randy Moss had 50 touch downs in his three years with the Patriots and that is an average of more than 16 touch downs per year. One of those years was with Matt Cassel at QB. Now, the team has a couple of TE’s and Welker to add to Moss’s ability to produce in the red zone. If nothing else Randy is worth a training camp invite and if all goes well, he should at least be given the same opportunity that Albert Haynesworth was given, a half a season. The payoff huge and the risk is even less than that of Chad or Albert.
Please Bring Back Randy Moss and let the dude have one more shot at getting his ring.

Omg..ya’ll wanting Moss back …same ole same ole crap the guy is washed up…didn’t even care if he got a pass the last going off…your asking for trouble bringing that cry baby back, go with a younger talent. Pats fans who want Moss back…get over it…he ain’t coming back to New England. 1-2-3 GO PATS

  84. By Wayne on Feb 16, 2012 | Reply

I know that I wasn’t the only one to see Moss play those three plus years for the Patriots. He was extremely productive and all the media did from week to week was try to find a spot on tape where he “MIGHT” have been slacking on a particular play. Maybe someone should actually recognize him for his level of productivity that no one on else on the team was remotely close to except for maybe Welker. Why doesn’t someone in the media say that the 07 Patriots were undefeated in the regular season in part, because of Moss’s contributions on the field (Felger et al). This is rediculous, We know what he can do when he is motivated. So instead of being negative toward a guy who has been productive for this team, why not think positive and say something like…”Come on Randy let’s get that RING”. He can still play…He’s the FREAK like that.

  85. By Ron on Feb 16, 2012 | Reply

    Nice job Wayne,
Someone needs to give Randy credit for something, the media is not going to. Patriot Nation if we can support picking up players like Chad Johnson and Albert Haynesworth, then I know we can support a productive player such as Randy Moss who has already done something for this team.

It comes down to which Moss will we get? Obviously he’s older, and wasn’t so good the last time he played here. So, no, go with young talent….

If Tom does not have a problem with Randy coming back
If Bill is willing to let Randy’s spouting off at the beginning of 2010 go under the bridge
If Randy is willing to sign a contract for about what we paid Chad last year
If we can still sign Wes to a deal
If we can deal with Condon to also bring in Brandon Lloyd
It would be fun to flood a defense with an emtpy backfield that features Lloyd and Moss wide Welker in the slot and Gronk and Hernandez lined up as tight ends
Revis island only has room for one castaway the other 4 pirates might run rampant

After the completely ineffective season performance by Ochocinco, I’m surprised Randy has not already been resigned by New England. The fact is that New England lacked a true deep threat all year and when Gronk went down to injury there was nothing keeping opposing defensive backfields honest. As a result more pressure on Brady and we know where that got us. Moss has always been a “Freak” of nature with his extraordinary blend of speed, jumping and hands. What most don’t know is that he also has great football intelligence. I am confident that reuniting Moss with Brady would have nothing but positive results. The man wants to win and deserves to win. And I would love to see New England make another run with Moss over the top, Gronk across the Middle, and Welker every which way between.

What a show it would be!!!

Bring back MOSS! – He QUICKLY picked up the offense, Brady has confidence in him, with the new TE’s and Welker hopefully back and Ocho learning with Randy’s help, will make the Patriots a RB and Defensive back’Defense playmaker away from another Super Bowl trip! – He got sick of arguing with O’brien and we even saw Brady arguing with O’brien at times, now with Josh back things will be better with Moss and he will help stretch the field. We will shatter all offensive records barring injuries. You heard it hear 1st!

  90. By kudos on Feb 17, 2012 | Reply

I personally would like to see Moss and Brandon Loyd. Two guys that can get down field and make tough catches (hell Loyd was making highlight catches from tebow who is horribly inaccurate.) With the leagues best slot receiver and the best TE tandem in football, those guys will succeed very well. I would also agree with the Wayne pick up, great routes, gets down field, great hands, and a having been in the labyrinth that was the colts offense, I am sure he could pick up the Pats play book. Though one thing is for sure, we can’t afford to break the bank on Offense. With major needs on defense we need to save as much money as possible for the defense, because if the defense can play better then our offense is automatically better by default even if we make no moves. A top 10-15 defense combined with the #3 offense (could be 1 with a deep threat), and were talking about total domination!

I think Moss’s And Ocho’s problem was not their problem.. But we had an offensive coordinator who didn’t know how to use them.. Both players went from playing TOP of the game to worst by changing to O’Brien..

If Randy Moss can do the 40 in the time he says he can. Who would you want on your team, Moss or Ochocinco. I would have Moss, Ocho only want to tweet instead of studying the playbook. If he was as good as Brady or Belichick says he was, why didn’t he have more plays.

  95. By Ray on Feb 17, 2012 | Reply

If they can get him for a decent price then I say take him. If Chad gets his game going and Welker gets a contract he’s happy with there is not much adjusting to do on the offense. Pick up a hard runner, a pass rusher and a few db’s in the draft and you got a monster team with a legitimate shot at the SB next year. This year they were in transition and it was amazing they made the big game. Next year with a few tweaked positions here and there they will be awesome!!

  96. By Ray on Feb 17, 2012 | Reply

PS: I think if they give Moss a chance to play for them this year they are going to get a beast!!!

The pats are better off focusing on getting a better defense. Moss had his moment in N.E. and now that time has came and gone. The offense is good even though some moments things didn’t work out. Getting a better defense this year will help out a lot more.

Moss,TO, Welker, Boston TE Party, all adds up to unstoppable offense with Brady at the helm. Please BB and Mr. Kraft, make this happen. It would be the greatest offense of all time.

Agree that Moss should at least get a training camp invite… If Moss had been in the Super Bowl this year, he could have caught Brady’s last Hail Mary Pass and we would have won the game!

Form is temporary, class is permanent. He can’t be much worse than Chad. Give him a few months and see what happens. What have we got to lose?

  101. By Tom on Feb 18, 2012 | Reply

There are many pros and cons to this decision. We all would like to see the Randy of 2007 back in Foxboro. But even if he’s in top shape (like he claims) he wouldn’t have that role. They do need a deep threat, and if Moss still has the speed I think he’s a better option than Branch. I love Deion, and he’s done some great things here. But he’s not the player he was seven years ago. I wouldn’t mind seeing Randy brought into camp, to earn a spot. It would have to be an incentive laden contract. I think he’d take less money to play in NE than to go elsewhere. But I’d also like to see them explore another option at WR as well. Maybe in the draft, and who knows what it would take to bring Lloyd or Jackson in? As long as Moss is OK with the fact he won’t be getting 80 catches and 20 TDs…up front. He’s not a long term solution, but maybe he could be a “buffer” while a young guy gets acclimated. It all depends on how much of his skill he has left, and his attitude. I’m sure Belichick would have to be convinced of both before he’d sign him. But if the Giants had to commit another DB deep back in Indy it would have given Welker and Hernandez a much better chance at some YAC…and better offensive production. We’ll see what happens, but maybe BB is waiting on FA to see all the viable options. Would Moss wait to be back in Foxboro? Can’t say for sure, but I believe he would.

  103. By Faith K on Feb 18, 2012 | Reply

Sure…why not. I think he still has something to contribute. Tom Brady likes him…he knows the offense. Sign Welker, our two tight ends, Brandon Lloyd…..sounds good to me!!!! If he would take a year for not alot of money…why not!!!!

  104. By Ervin on Feb 18, 2012 | Reply

I would not try to bring Moss back. New England’s offense is succesful with the contribution of all players. We made it to the superball without Moss. I would rather give the opportunity to an eager young receiver that could contribute more to the offense and be a team player. Ocho and Branch could also be reevaluated. I would look for a couple more younger receivers that can contribute to the teams overall success and who knows maybe that could be the difference.

  105. By Nosa on Feb 19, 2012 | Reply

I would much rather get Reggie Wayne and have Ocho with a full off season….why are we talking offense?….OUR D was the major problem…if we put all our picks on corner and safety and keep the same guys on offense we win the SB next year for sure…

  106. By Mr. Nicholas on Feb 19, 2012 | Reply

Yes Get Randy Moss back. If you can add him to an already deadly force of recievers this gives the best passer “Our QB Tom Brady” Many options. Everyone deserves a second chance. I think Randy Moss could prove himself with a team that he’s put up career numbers with. Bill Belichick is no idiot when it comes to the importance of building a football team. If he brings back Randy Moss The New England Patriots will be a dominant Force.

  107. By Andrew on Feb 19, 2012 | Reply

This would not be in the best interest in the patriots as a whole. As great as the reward would be in best case, BB isnt going to make another risky move, after the Ochocinco and Hanesworth mistakes. Not to mention that if they considered signing randy, I cant imagine them doing it for more than a year, and if somehow moss does produce, it will be him complaining about a longer contract, like he did prior. I agree with the earlier statements of looking for a vincent jackson WR or something equal. If Branch stays, it will be for less money, or send him away. The need to focus on keeping Welker, their center, obtaining a deep threat/sizable WR and some help in the secondary. Randy isnt part of this plan.

bring moss back he can teach chad Johnson the play book,
and teach Brady how to run instead of throwing picks to start the fourth qrt and go out and get the wide out from the charges,or that guy that loves josh, and then use the 2 1st round picks we have for the defense.like a pass rusher and a corner or safety. i wanna se brady and bb get that 4th ring and after that ill wanna see that fifth ring.
    god bless and good luck
    go pats…..

I THINK WE SHOULD BRING HIM BACK AT CHEAP MONEY..IT CANT HURT.. HE STILL CAN PLAY AT A REASONABLE LEVEL… AND RIGHT NOW WE HAVE NO DEEP THREAT…AND WE ALL NOW HE WILL CATCH SOME BALLS AND SCORE SOME TDS…JUST THE THREAT OF HIM ON THE FIELD..I THINK WE WOULD SEE A GOOD ADDITUDE OUT OF RANDY, LIKE IN 07 AND 08…

  112. By Sam on Feb 20, 2012 | Reply

Yes we could use Moss. Sure he had one bad year with the Pats, but honestly I think e eryone on the team has had their one bad year somewhere in their Pats career. We could use Moss for a deep threat if nothing else. Doesn’t really matter if he is gooad as he used to be, because the defense will always assume that he is better then he plays anyway. The Pats do not currently have a deep threat, thats a little hard when your best receiver is under 6’0. And the whole not using Chad last season was just sad. I really think the Pats could have used him in the SuperBowl, but I’m not the coach. Overall, I think with both Moss and Ocho, we could have a deadly offense and give Welker that edge over the middle along with Hernadez and Gronk if we had Moss and acutally used Ocho. Next season is going to take more then Gronk and Welker speed to get to the SuperBowl again

I Think if Randy understands that this is a one to two year deal tops and it is an opportunity for him to show the rest of the NFL what he still has left, then I think he comes in with a chip on his shoulder with something to prove. The one thing I can assure every blogger on this site is that by now I am positive that Randy understands that his remaining career is on a year to year basis at his age and that he is no longer seeking a long term contract. All he wants to do is play football and have the best chance at getting a ring. Daryl Green of the Redskins could still run a 4.4 in the fourty at the age of fourty-two. Jerry Rice was never known for his speed and was still productive in the NFL at the age of fourty. Randy has never had a major injury like T.O. and you can’t tell me that with 4.3 speed, his size, and his unbelievable hands that he can’t still get behind people especially now that there are so many other options on the team (there can’t be constant double coverage on him anymore). Randy at the very least has two to three good years left in him and if the Pats could have him for one or two of those years that would be awesome. Bring Back Moss and improve the defense (Mark Barron anyone?). Let’s Go Pats.

I don’t think that Bill Belichek (sorry for spelling) is concerned with what is percieved as last years failures. I believe that as good a coach as he is, that he would still take Moss back if he seriously believes that it will help the team. I don’t think that bill would be so petty as to let his personal feelings interfear with team success. I think Bill is smart enough to continue taking the periodic risk, besides no risk no reward. If your a good coach things will still pan out like this past year. Chad and Albert neither one worked out, but we still made it to the Super Bowl. As for my personal opinion on Randy Moss, Well, I think that he is worth the risk and I believe that a year away from the game of football has made him an even better risk worth taking, because he is hungry to play again. I believe in Randy Moss and so does the majority of fans on this site. Let’s give this guy another chance….Please.

We don’t have a deep threat besides ocho and he never plays which is mind blowing to me. We have great tight ends and a great slasher in welker. With moss there welker has all the middle of field to do what he do best get positive yards. Moss,Ochocinco,Branch, welker who can stop them with our great tight ends.
